How to Enter


The Climate Change Challenge is open to worldwide applications from persons of any age or country. Persons under the age 18 require approval from a guardian and their application countersigned by that person.

Applicants should familiarise themselves and fully understand the rules and conditions of entry and what the Challenge involves.

The intellectual property rights of all designs and inventions will belong and remain with the inventor and not UK 8020.

Closing date for applications is 31st January 2009. Please read the Rules & Conditions for a complete understanding of the Challenge.
 

Application Fee:
Applications from an individual: £50
Applications from groups: £100
(UK 8020 is a Not for Profit Company. Your application fee will be used to cover the costs of administration and associated costs of processing your application and your final submissions).


Judging Criteria:
All entries will be judged on the following criteria:

1. Energy generation – will the invention generate at least 90% of a UK domestic average household’s electricity currently approximately five Megawatt hours annually.

2. Aesthetics – the looks, size, design and general appearance

3. Practicality – size, ease of use, durability in terms of life expectancy of the renewable energy generator, associated installation costs.

4. Retail Value – will it be possible for the renewable energy generator to retail and be installed for £500 (five hundred pounds sterling) or less.

5. Global Use – adaptability of invention in locations around the world.


The Challenge will run over a two year period. Applications will be accepted from 12th July until 31st January 2009. Submission of designs, blueprints, drawings, prototypes and supporting documentation by 31st July 2009.

The winning inventor will be presented with their award and prize of £100,000 at an Award Ceremony, (date to be confirmed.)
