Geothermal Heat Pumps (Ground Source Heat Pumps)

Geothermal heat pumps or ground source heat pumps use the constant temperature of the earth as the exchange medium instead of the outside air temperature

The heat in the air does not totally dissipate but it is absorbed and stored by the ground within our feet. This heat is kept at a constant temperature of around 10 to 14°C all year round. A geothermal heat pump system is a heating and/or an air conditioning system that utilises this warmth to heat our homes and our water.

Ground Source Heat Pumps are powered by electricity but for every unit of electricity used, 3 or 4 units of heat are produced. Ground Source Heat Pumps could provide your entire home’s heating thereby cutting your energy bills significantly.

Geothermal Heat Pumps can reduce energy consumption and corresponding emissions up to 44% compared to air-source heat pumps and up to 72% compared to electric resistance heating with standard air-conditioning equipment.

Ground source heat pumps also improve humidity control by maintaining about 50% relative indoor humidity, making Ground Source Heat pumps very effective in humid areas.

Though the Ground Source Heat Pumps system utilises electricity to power the compressor and the system it will still produce a certain amount of CO2 however it is a lot lesser than the harmful gas produced by gas, oil and coal
